Buddy Driver Scheme

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Buddy Driver Scheme. Hale u3a takes its responsibilities to the environment seriously. So, the Buddy Driver Scheme has been set up to facilitate car sharing to u3a local venues. It will also link Volunteer Drivers with other Members who currently depend on public transport.

If you are prepared to give a lift to someone in your own immediate locality, you can put yourself on a volunteer list by contacting our Buddy Driver Coordinator Passengers will be asked whether there are any health or mobility issues to consider, and this would have to be shared with any potential volunteer driver.

Volunteers will only be asked to take a member within their own locality to meetings/events they are already going to, and will be made aware of any issues before agreeing to volunteer a lift. Normally we will only pair a driver with a passenger if the driver is already going to the event or meeting. So, no payment will be requested, thus avoiding any insurance issues.

If you are seeking a lift to a Hale u3a meeting or event, you can email our Buddy Driver Coordinator to see if anyone can give you a lift. You will be asked whether there are any health or mobility issues to consider, and this would have to be shared with any potential volunteer driver.

I’m sure regular volunteers will be rewarded by grateful passengers with the occasional box of chocolates!

The Scheme can also operate as a simple car-sharing scheme. It doesn’t really make financial or environmental sense for two members living a street apart to be driving separately to a meeting. This scheme will put you in touch with each other.
