Walking group 3 is a friendly group who enjoy a chat and a longish, possibly strenuous walk and is open to new members.
Walks are on the third Wednesday of each month and are more challenging than the other walking groups, covering 6-9 miles and hillier terrain. They usually start between 10.00 and 10.30, depending on location and the finishing time is usually between 15.00 and 16.00, but it depends on the terrain. Lifts can be arranged and car sharing is encouraged, especially where there is a limited amount of parking at the start point. Travel time to and from the start point can be up to an hour or so.
The walking routes may involve some steep slopes, and cross fields, stiles etc and may be muddy depending on the weather, fields may contain livestock. Members should wear suitable clothing and footwear, and bring a packed lunch. The leader will provide details before each walk. We usually call into a cafe for a tea or coffee break during the walk or a pub after it has finished to sample local ales. The leader of the walk will provide an indication of the type of walk, stiles, inclines etc so that members can decide if it is for them.
The success of the group is dependent on members of the group being willing to lead walks. whether that is a stroll along canals and river banks or climbing Kinder Scout in the Peak District.
